Notaries are required to verify the signer’s identity on the basis of “satisfactory evidence,” which means either suitable identification documents or the oaths of one of two witnesses.
In Missouri. the Secretary of State’s Office recommends using a government-issued identification card that includes the signer’s picture and signature, such as a drivers’ license or passport. The notary may ask for multiple forms of ID; until the signer’s identity is satisfactorily proved.
If no ID is available, ask us about using “Credible Witness(es)”.
Be sure to bring multiple acceptable identification documents with you to your signing, if away from home.
